Chef confesses to robbing Vreed-en-Hoop betting shop, Goed Fortuin Chinese supermarket

Days after he was arrested, 28-year-old Corwin Estwick confessed to robbing a Vreed-en-Hoop betting shop and a Goed Fortuin, West Bank Demerara Chinese supermarket of cash and other valuables, while being accompanied by others.

The News Room was reliably informed that Estwick, a chef and a resident of Peter’s Hall, East Bank Demerara (EBD) remains in custody and will be further questioned on Wednesday.

His cell phone, along with the firearm that was found in his possession at the time of his arrest, will be analysed.

According to information reaching the News Room, Estwick was questioned on Tuesday afternoon in relation to a robbery committed on five customers of a betting shop located at Strikey Bar, New Road, Vreed-en-Hoop.

He reportedly admitted that he and two accomplices journeyed to the West Bank of Demerara and once at Pouderoyen, they boarded a taxi and went to Strikey bar where they robbed the customers.

Estwick told investigators that after committing the crime, he and his accomplices went to Diary, Parfaite Harmonie, WBD, where they spent some time before parting ways.

Estwick was further questioned in relation to an armed robbery that occurred on August 30, 2023, at Panda Supermarket, Goed Fortuin, to which he also reportedly admitted being part of.

Estwick reportedly admitted to committing the crime with one other accomplice, while being armed with a firearm.

The News Room was told that during questioning, Estwick reportedly admitted that they robbed the owner of the supermarket of $150,000 in cash.

But in providing details, Estwick reportedly told investigators that the initial plan was not to rob the supermarket.

“We really didn’t go fuh rob the supermarket. We went fuh buy a pack cigarette and two energy drink but we decide fuh make one bad job and rob the Chiney,” he reportedly confessed.

After committing the robbery, Estwick allegedly discharged a loaded firearm at the security guard, who was on duty at the supermarket.

“I shoot behind the guard before he could a shoot behind me, then we run down the street and went in Dairy and the same gun the police find on me, is the same gun I use and rob the Chiney and shoot the security guard,” Estwick reportedly confessed.

Estwick was arrested on September 4 during an intelligence-led Police operation at a Peter’s Hall house.

During the operation, ranks also recovered a GR 43 Glock pistol and four 9MM live rounds in the magazine, which he had in his possession. It is believed that this is the same firearm that was used to commit the robberies.
