Motorcyclist dies in accident after failing to stop at traffic light
A motorcyclist who failed to adhere to a stop light at the intersection of North Road and Camp Street has died after he crashed into a car.
The incident occurred at around 01:10 hrs on Thursday; the car (PNN 7200) was being driven by Abayomi Hart, a 39-year-old of Herstelling, East Bank Demerara.
Police are yet to identify the victim who was riding motorcycle #CJ 4079.
A press release from the Police Force noted that based on the investigation, the motorcyclist was speeding west along North Road and as he approached the intersection, the traffic light was flashing red in his direction but he failed to stop and collided with the left front portion of the car which was proceeding south.
As a result of the collision, the motorcyclist was flung some distance and landed near a concrete fence on the western pavement, where he sustained injuries to his head and body.
He was picked up by a Police patrol in an unconscious condition and transported to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries while receiving medical attention.
The body is at Georgetown Public Hospital’s Mortuary waiting to be identified. The car driver is in Police custody, assisting with the investigation.
