The USA is out of the Basketball World Cup after losing to Germany 113-111 in the semifinals.

The Americans trailed Germany by as much as 12 in the fourth quarter but cut the Germans’ lead to just one with 1:35 remaining.

However, a step-back three on the next possession from Andreas Obst gave the Germans a four-point advantage that they ultimately wouldn’t relinquish.

Anthony Edwards led the way for the Americans with 23 points, while Austin Reaves had 21 and Mikal Bridges added 17.

Obst, who plays for Bayern Munich, had a team-high 24 points for Germany while the Orlando Magic’s Franz Wagner had 22.

Daniel Theis also had 21 while Dennis Schroeder poured in 17.

Germany had been 0-6 against the Americans in World Cup or Olympic competition entering Friday.

A 35-24 third quarter was basically the difference for Germany, which this time finished the job that it couldn’t pull off when meeting the Americans in Abu Dhabi for an exhibition earlier this summer.

The loss was the Americans’ second of the tournament after they fell to Lithuania in the group stage after clinching a spot in the knockouts.

The USA will face Canada in the third-place game on Sunday.

Germany will face Serbia in the final. (DailyMail)
