Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) stormed to the inaugural Republic Bank (Guyana) Ltd. (RBL) Under-23 Super50 title after trouncing North Essequibo by 124 runs during Friday’s exciting final held at the Bourda Ground.

Both teams qualified for the national final after winning their respective county finals and in keeping their consistent form throughout the tournament, DCC racked up 278 batting first.

Leading the charge was Man-of-the-match Brandon Jaikaran, who hit a classy 74 with four fours and a pair of sixes.

Support came from his fellow opening partner, Sachin Singh who had 42 off 43 balls (3x4s, 3x6s) along with 26 apiece from Jaden Campbell and Indarjeet Nanan. North Essequibo bowlers operated with decent efficiency, led by Rajindra Ramballi (3-48) and Natron Gill (2-33).

Replying to almost 300 runs would have never been easy and North Essequibo found that out as they only could muster 153-7 by the time overs expired. Carl Gilgeous (43), Quency Simpson (31), Govinda Tulsie (20) and Ramballi 19, toiled with the bat for Essequibo.

Bowling for DCC, Ezekiel Wilson (3-28) and DCC skipper Nkosi Beaton (2-13) stemmed the flow of runs ahead of the victory.

During the post-match ceremony, most wickets in the finals went to Wilson for his three wickets.

However, the star of the moment was Jaikaran, who was undoubtedly the form man for his team in the final battle, copped a double award as he was named finals MVP and also awarded for Most Runs in the final.

GCB Secretary Ronald Williams hailed the tournament for being outstanding. He added it was important to secure sponsorship for the tournament.

He lauded the sponsors for their full support, especially with their title sponsoring the ongoing Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League.
