An accident on the Cornelia Ida Public Road, West Coast Demerara on Saturday morning resulted in the death of 51-year-old Andrew Ali.
At the time of the accident, Ali, of Anna Catherina, WCD, was riding motorcycle CJ 3255 when he collided with a motor lorry (GYY 6979) with trailer (TAD 81).
The lorry was being driven by a 25-year-old resident of Plantation Best, West Coast Demerara.
Police Headquarters reported that Ali was proceeding east along the northern side of the road when he “turned across the road and proceeded east on the southern side.”
The front portion of the motorcycle collided with the left side of the trailer, which was proceeding west.
As a result of the collision, Ali fell off the motorcycle and sustained injuries to his body. He was picked up in a conscious condition and taken to the Leonora Cottage Hospital where he died while receiving medical attention at about 12:55 hrs.
The body was escorted to the Ezekiel Funeral Home awaiting an autopsy. The lorry driver is in custody as the investigation continues.
