Guyana/Qatar sign three cooperation agreements as Amir visits

Qatar’s Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani visited Guyana for the first time on Tuesday and after talks with President Dr. Irfaan Ali and other meetings, three new cooperation agreements were signed.

According to a Facebook post on President Ali’s official page, the two leaders held bilateral discussions on mutual areas of interest at State House in Georgetown.

Their respective government delegations, on the other hand, engaged in plenary discussions.

Thereafter, the two leaders witnessed the signing of two agreements and a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the governments of the two countries.

According to the Peninsula Qatar, these include an agreement on economic, commercial and technical cooperation, an agreement on the encouragement and protection of mutual investments, and the MoU for cooperation in the legal field.

Qatar and Guyana established diplomatic relations in 1996, with Georgetown seeking to strengthen bilateral cooperation in numerous fields, including climate change and energy.
