Two missing in boat accident near Kanaima Falls

Ranks of the Joint Services have launched a search for two passengers who are missing and feared dead after the boat in which they were Tuesday toppled and sank near the Kanaima Falls, Region Seven.

The identities of the missing persons are not yet known.

The incident occurred about 18:20hrs.

The missing persons were among seven persons who were onboard a fuel vessel which departed Devil Hole landing, Cuyuni River.

The boat was captioned by 36-year-old Rawle Jarvis of Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara.

The News Room understands that while navigating through Kanaima Falls, the boat struck a rock and sank.

While the others managed to swim to shore, the two missing passengers were not located.

A search is currently underway.

    The GPF or GDF should not waste time and money searching for people gone missing on the rivers traveling
    on water vessels (Boats), when the have failed to WEAR FLOATION DEVICES which could save lives when in accidents. STOP SEARCHING FOR FOOLS WHO DON’T WEAR LIFE PRESERVORS ON THE RIVERS.
