Given the Guyana Amazon Warriors’ winning streak in the 2023 Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League (CPL), most promoters for Guyana Cricket Carnival 2023 anticipate massive turnout for the slated events.

During a press conference to discuss the highly-anticipated scheduled events, major sponsors said preparations for all events are on track and given the performance of the Guyana Amazon Warriors, the events are expected to be bigger this year.

To ensure there is safety at each event, the Cricket Carnival General Manager Abigail Mohabir said there is a well-thought-out security plan.

“We have the Guyana Police Force working with us and they will be present. No one will be allowed with firearms in any of the events.

“We have security in place, as well as secured parking,” Mohabir said during the meeting at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre, Liliendaal, Greater Georgetown.

Meanwhile, the promoters for the major events like the Pan, Brass and Soca Festival, the Super Concert and the Cricket Carnival Road Parade said these events are also on track with planning and they are ready for patrons to indulge in the festivities.

Ferial Suliman, the Head of Stabroek Travel, said the Super Concert is a major event that promotes Guyanese alongside big names in the industry such as Shenseea, Sean Paul and Kes the Band. The local performers are Adrian Dutchin and Nekeita.

“Our aim is to make it a celebration of unity and diversity by using world-class entertainment…we have an incredible line of international and local musical houses,” Suliman said.

This event will be held on September 23.

Nurriyah Gerrard from the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport said, “Preparations are on schedule for ‘Welcome Home Pan Brass and Soca’ …it will serve as the official kick-start to the very exciting and very packed Cricket Carnival weekend.

“We are encouraging steel pan enthusiasts and soca-holics to join us on the Kingston Beach next Thursday for an electrifying night of entertainment.”

Several popular steel bands including the Guyana Police Force Steel band and the Guyana Defence Force Steel Band.

Tickets for these events can be purchased at the CPL box office, Hits and Jams Box office, the National Cultural Centre box office, That Look Boutique, Fireside Grill and Potsalt events.com.

Several bands have also released information about their mesmerising costumes for the road parade. Amel Griffith, the Public Relations Officer at Hits and Jams Entertainment said the costumes will be part of two trucks, one of which will have all amenities such as washroom facilities, food and drinks.

There is also the Decoded Carnival Band which was launched for Mashramani 2023 and will be participating in this year’s carnival because of the big turnout in February, Ryan Gonsalves, a representative said. And the Boom Nation and Heritage Band is also an option for revellers to be a part of.

Cricket Carnival will be hosted from September 08 to September 25, 2023, with several sports and entertainment events planned.
