Man charged with multiple ‘East Bank’ robberies remanded to prison

Anferny Cantzlar, a 28-year-old labourer of North Ruimveldt, Georgetown, was remanded to prison after being charged for several robberies.

Police Headquarters reported that the man was arrested on September 11 and charged on Friday for break and enter and larceny at the Diamond, East Bank Demerara, house of 44-year-old businessman Chattergoon Jadoopat.

Cantzlar was also charged in a separate matter before the same Magistrate for the offence of burglary committed on Anterny Alleyne, a 62-year-old consultant from Diamond Housing Scheme, EBD.

The man faced another two charges for break and enter and larceny at the home of Jainarine Singh, a 31-year-old businessman of Golden Grove, East Bank Demerara, and at the home of Horatio Croker, a self-employed man also from Golden Grove.

He appeared at the Golden Grove/Diamond Magistrate’s Court #2 before Magistrate Judy Latchman, who read the charges to him. He pleaded not guilty to all of the charges. He was not granted bail and was remanded to prison.

The matters were adjourned to October 11.
