Vagrant dies in Georgetown accident
Police are investigating an accident which claimed the life of an unidentified vagrant on Monday night on Avenue of the Republic and Regent Street, Georgetown.
According to Police Headquarters, truck driver Lincoln Corlette, 38, was proceeding south on Avenue of the Republic and within the vicinity of Regent Street when he observed four pedestrians standing on the eastern side of the road.
The driver claimed that the pedestrians ran from East to West across the road and he tried to swerve from colliding into them; the vagrant was struck by the rear left wheel of the truck.
As a result, the vagrant fell and sustained injuries to his body and died.
The body is at the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, awaiting a post-mortem examination.
The driver is in custody, assisting with investigations.
