The Guyana Motor Racing & Sports Club (GMR&SC) will host the ‘Essequibo Drag Invasion’ on October 8 at the Mainstay Airstrip from 11:00h.

According to GMR&SC Vice-President Mohamed Shairaz Roshandin, the event is part of their plans to decentralize the sport from one base, given its massive following in Guyana.

“Whenever there is Drag Racing, it is held at the South Dakota Circuit, and persons would travel from near and far to attend, but we wanted to do something different, and go to the people, and attract a larger fan base for future events,” the GMR&SC Executive explained.

To further promote inclusivity under the ‘One Guyana’ banner, the club wanted more persons to experience the thrill of racing and also alternate ways of creating concepts for sport tourism.

The ultimate aim is to make this Essequibo Race Meet part of the Cricket Carnival Callender.

Roshandin indicated that high-powered machines would be present, some for exhibition and some for competition.

After this event, attention turns to the International Circuit Racing event on November 7 at the South Dakota Circuit.

Tickets for Drag Racing in Essequibo cost $2,000 for adults and $1,000 for children.
