A 35-year-old man was on Friday charged in relation to the murder of Venezuelan national, Estephanie Garcias, who was allegedly killed in her Kaikan, Region Seven cottage one week ago.

Jairo Medina Hernandes, also a Venezuelan national appeared before Magistrate Delon Bess at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court.

He is accused of murdering Garcias on September 22.

Hernandes was not required to plea to the indictable charge and was remanded to prison.

The case was adjourned to December 19, 2023.

Police previously reported that Garcias was murdered after she was left alone by her family.

Reports are that Garcias lived with her husband and their three children.

Police had said investigations revealed that Garcias’ husband left for Venezuela where he works on September 21. And around 07:30hrs the following day, Police said the woman’s three children left for school, leaving her home alone.

On their return at around 16:30hrs, Police said the children discovered Garcias’ lifeless body on the floor.

An alarm was immediately raised and the neighbours responded. The matter was subsequently reported to the Kaikan Police Station.

“On arrival at the scene, the body was found lying on its back on the floor of the one-bedroom house with a red T-shirt pulled just above her breast and multi-coloured underwear pulled below her buttocks with her private parts exposed,” Police had said.

There were also two wounds to Garcias neck.
