In providing insurance services to all parts of Guyana, the Demerara Mutual Insurance Company has expanded to cater to customers’ needs in Region Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara).
The company Monday opened a branch at the recently opened West Central Mall at Leonora.
At the ribbon-cutting ceremony, the company’s Chief Executive Officer Melisa DeSantos told the News Room that this expansion is part of the overall plan to provide several insurance services at one place.
“We are the oldest life insurance in Guyana [and] our aim is to become a one-stop shop for all your insurance needs,” the CEO said.
Demerara Mutual Insurance Company has been operating for 132 years in Guyana. It covers fire and general insurance services under its company, Demerara Mutual Fire and General Services. The company provides life insurance, health insurance, pension plan, fire insurance, motor insurance and liability.
For many years there was the centralised head office at Robb Street, Georgetown and over time offices were opened at Linden, Berbice and Mahaicony. And with many clients living in Region Three, now those living in nearby communities can conduct business closer to their homes and with ease, the Sales and Marketing Manager, Sharmela Ramsammy said.
“One of our plans for 2023 was to open a branch on this side so when we heard that there will be a mall on this side, we felt like the mall is a perfect location.
“The aim for all our branches is to have the same services available. Everything from life insurance to vehicle inspections and fire insurance.
“Any kind of insurance that is required will also be provided here…filling forms, sending in claims,” Ramsammy said.
She noted that this branch will not have agents available, but they can be contacted via telephone or email and the information is reported in real time.
This new location provides employment for those living in the area.
