Labourer fatally stabbed during argument with man who troubled his wife

Mark Hilliman, a 25-year-old labourer was fatally stabbed by another man on Saturday night during a dispute over Hilliman’s wife.

Police Headquarters on Sunday said Hilliman of McDoom, East Bank Demerara, and Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara, was stabbed at about 22:00 hrs at Longden and Croal Streets, Georgetown.

According to the report, the suspect, an identifiable man (name and address unknown at this time) went to the KFC outlet at Water Street, at around 21:35 hrs.

Hilliman’s reputed wife, 28, works there and was on duty when the suspect, who is not known to her, started interfering with her.

At the said time, Hilliman also went to visit his wife and observed the situation.

He then told the man to desist from interfering with his wife.

An argument ensued between the two men, each of whom were armed with a knife.

The men left the outlet and went to Longden and Croal Streets where the suspect stabbed the Hilliman on his left side chest.

The injured man walked a short distance before he collapsed, while the suspect made good his escape on foot in a southern direction with the knife.

Hilliman was picked up by public-spirited citizens and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by Doctor Joseph.

The body is presently lying at the GPHC’s Mortuary, awaiting a PME.

The police said several persons were questioned and CCTV cameras were seen in the area and are being reviewed by investigators.

The police have launched an investigation and efforts to locate the suspect were not successful.
