Body of man, 24, found in drain after suspected hit and run


A 24-year-old man died on Sunday after he was reportedly struck down at Walton Hall village, Essequibo Coast.

Dead is Andrew Murray of Jibb, Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam); the News Room understands that Murray was struck down sometime in the wee hours of Sunday but his body was only discovered on Sunday afternoon inside a drain.

The driver of the car who reportedly fled the scene of the accident has since been arrested and is in Police custody assisting with the investigation.

One of the victim’s aunt, Sharon Chattergoon, said he lived with her and she last saw him at around 17:00 hrs on Saturday.

“My sister said he came home around mid-night Saturday looking worried, we suspect he was in a fight, however, like he ran out and maybe he got an accident same time,” relatives told the News Room.

According to reports reaching the News Room, the driver claimed that he knew he hit something but when he checked, he did not see anything or anyone.

However, on Sunday afternoon, a resident noticed the young man’s body in a nearby drain.

He was later pronounced dead at the Suddie Hospital and a post mortem is expected to be performed soon.
