Suspected thief dies after trying to break into Vreed-en-Hoop shop


Police are investigating the death of a suspected thief, who died after he broke his neck while trying to get inside a shop at Vreed-en-Hoop, West Coast Demerara (WCD).
The man has been identified only as ‘Raymond’. The News Room understands that the Police received an anonymous call around 06:40 hrs Saturday.
The caller, the News Room understands, reported that ‘Raymond’ broke his neck and was found outside the shop at Jetty Squatting Area, Vreed-en-Hoop, WCD.
A team of ranks was dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, cops found ‘Raymond’ standing on several drink cases; his head was between the rafter and a concrete wall.
The owner of the shop told the Police that he secured his business at around 21:00 hrs Friday.
Several persons in the area were questioned by the Police and they reportedly related that Raymond was a known thief from Goed Fortuin, WBD.
The man’s body was examined and there were no visible marks of violence; he was pronounced dead at the West Demerara Regional Hospital.
