Woman, 56, dies after being hit by speeding driver
A 56-year-old woman died on Monday night after she was struck down by a speeding vehicle along the Lusignan Railway Embankment, East Coast Demerara (ECD).
Dead is Pulwantie Ramjan of Annandale Railway Embankment; Police Headquarters stated that the accident occurred at about 18:15 hrs.
The vehicle (KICS-2) was being driven by a 25-year-old woman of Non Pariel, ECD.
Police said the driver was speeding and claimed that “at a close distance, the 56-year-old woman crossed the road from north to south, into the path of her vehicle.”
Ramjan was flung into the air before hitting the road surface; she was pronounced dead at the scene by EMTs. The woman’s body was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Mortuary.
A breathalyser test conducted on the female driver found no trace of alcohol. Further investigations are ongoing.
At that time, the vehicle should have had it lights on…nobody crosses the road with approaching vehicle, lights on.
