Police Commander of Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne), Shivpersaud Bacchus has confirmed that two Policemen are under close arrest for alleged corrupt transactions.
Bacchus told the News Room that the ranks are a Subordinate Officer and a Constable.
The News Room understands that the issue stemmed from an incident on the Corentyne Coast where a businesswoman was observed with a large sum of foreign currency by the Police during a roadblock.
During that operation, it is alleged that the Policemen demanded that a portion of the money is split between them or else she would be arrested.
As a result, senior Police officials were informed of what took place and an investigation was launched which led to the close arrest of the two ranks.
