Police are on the hunt for 29-year-old David Josiah, man who allegedly beat and injured his four-year-old son on October 8, 2023 at Parika Facade, East Bank Essequibo.

Police Headquarters reported that Josiah went home drunk and got into a heated argument with his common-law partner, 32-year-old Rebecca Premdas.

As a result, they began fighting in the presence of the child and his elder brother, which caused them to run out of the house to seek help.

On seeing them running away, Josiah ran behind them and managed to hold on to the four-year-old. He then severely beat the child to his head and other parts of the body before escaping.

The next morning, the mother went to the Parika Police Station with the injured child and told the Police that he fell down and that her husband never hit him.

“However, she was issued a medical form to seek medical attention for herself and her child.

“At about 16:00 hrs, checks were made in Parika Facade for the suspect, but he was not contacted. Several persons were questioned, and useful information was received.

“Continued efforts are being made to locate the suspect, whose whereabouts are so far unknown. No photos were obtained or any other address for him,” the Police statement noted.

Meanwhile, on October 10, the woman returned to the Police Station, where she informed the Police that her son was admitted as a patient at West Demerara Regional Hospital, awaiting results from a CT scan.

The next day, the mother further updated the Police that her son suffered a fractured skull and was still hospitalised.

Statements were taken, and the suspect is yet to be arrested. Investigations are ongoing.
