A porter died on Saturday morning at Cullen, Essequibo Coast, after the garbage truck he was in crashed into a trench.
The porter has not yet been identified.
At about 05:30 hrs, the porter alongside a labourer, a checker and the truck’s driver were at Cullen collecting garbage.
The News Room understands that the driver attempted to slow down before approaching the trench but he was unable to do. As such, the truck crashed into the trench that is filled with mud.
While the others managed to escape, the porter was trapped inside the vehicle.
Those who survived are at the Anna Regina Police Station assisting with the investigation.
This is such a sad state of affairs. Death occurs so suddenly and without any warning. My condolence goes out to his grieving family. May his sweet soul rest in peace.
Why was the driver trying to slow down ? Obviously, SPEEDING that killed one of his co-workers.
He must be charged : causing death by dangerous driving, speeding etc.
A pity the driver was not the one who should have died.
Was his breath analysed for alcohol? I cannot he understand he was driving at a speed which prevented him from turning safely! When will these ‘strange’ road accidents stop in Guyana ?
That man has lost his life owing to someone’s error!
