Promising fast-bowler Shamar Joseph has been added to the Guyana Harpy Eagles squad for the Regional Super50 that starts October 17 in Trinidad and Tobago.
On Friday, a senior official of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) explained to News Room Sport that “Joseph will be a travelling reserve until they can get clearance for him to be eligible for selection.”
All other squads in the eight-team tournament have a squad size of 14.
Joseph, who had an impressive start to this First-Class career earlier in the year, made another impression with his express pace during the latter stages of the Caribbean Premier League.
Harpy Eagles play their first match on Tuesday against Windward Volcanoes at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy from 13:00h.
Some members of the squad and management departed Saturday morning, while another batch will join on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the top brass of the GCB met with members of the Harpy Eagles on Friday evening at the Windjammer Hotel in Kitty, Georgetown.
GCB President Bissoondyal Singh and a few of his executives, including Secretary Ronald Williams, thanked the team for their cohesion and lauded them for their recent performances in the Inter-County and the practice games.
He urged them to represent Guyana with class and success, adding that they need to remain ambassadors of the country.
Assistant coach Garvin Nedd spoke briefly about his team’s current state of mind and goals for this upcoming challenge.
Nedd pointed out that the players were confident as they aim to wrap up the year with the Four-Day, CPL, and Super50 titles.
