President Dr. Irfaan Ali commissioned the new $125 million recreational park at Corriverton, Region Six (East Berbice- Corentyne) on Saturday and announced that national celebrations and family-oriented activities will be held there.
And those activities, he said, will help to push tourism in the region and create more business opportunities for residents.
Dr. Ali said those activities will start as soon as next month with one week of events for the Diwali celebrations planned. He said similar activities will be organised for Eid and Christmas observances.
Once those activities are organised, he believes businesses in the area, be it restaurants or hotels, will also see more traffic.
“…This can be a model investment that will stimulate all the other types of investments,” Dr. Ali said.
The President also noted that the new recreational park forms part of a wider focus on developing quality infrastructure so that the region can attract more tourists. Aside from the park, a new stadium, hotels, malls and other safe spaces are being built in Region Six.
This recreational park is part of First Lady Mrs. Arya Ali’s National Beautification Project.
Minister of Public Works Juan Edghill emphasised that the creation of the park addresses the more compassionate aspect of development.
He noted that while building roads, defence structures, and bridges is essential, prioritising people’s happiness, health, well-being, and relaxation is equally crucial.
