Twelve-year-old Rehana Basdeo of Aurora Estate and a student of the Abram Zuil Secondary School in Region Two is currently fighting for her life in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Georgetown Public Hospital after she was struck down by a speeding car at Good Intent on the Essequibo Coast.

The accident occurred on September 14 at around 16:00 hrs; the child was riding a bicycle at the time and was heading to see her father when she was struck down.

She was picked up in an unconscious state and rushed to the Suddie Public Hospital and was later air-dashed to the GPHC. Relatives said she sustained a fractured skull in addition to other injuries and remains in a critical condition.

It is alleged that a minibus stopped for Basdeo to cross the road on her bicycle when the car overtook the bus and crashed into the child.

The family is calling on the Police to conduct a thorough investigation into the accident as the driver is on station bail.

Drivers like this driver, who could not wait behind a stopped vehicle with flashing lights ? for pedestrians
to cross, should have his driver’s license cancelled.
Where is the courtesy ? Forget about the other “C’s .
