The body of a man who drowned while swimming in the Cuyuni River earlier this week was retrieved on Monday in a decomposed state.
The Guyana Police Force (GPF) on Tuesday said 24-year-old Chris LaRose from Kurutuka Village drowned at about 16:00 hrs when he attempted to swim across the Cuyuni River on Sunday.
A nine-year-old child who lives in the village reportedly witnessed the ordeal and raised an alarm. The body was recovered during search efforts at approximately 16:00 hrs on Monday in the vicinity of the village.
The Police could not determine whether there were any marks of violence due to the body’s state of decomposition.
LaRose’s body was transported to Bartica and further investigations into the incident are ongoing.
