The man was identified as Danieram Persaud of Diamond, East Bank Demerara.

At approximately 07:35hrs, one of the ranks stopped the motor lorry (#GAC 7594) with trailer #TMM 3007, being driven by Persaud. He was transporting logs, heading in the Western direction.

As a rank approached the man, he said Persaud was seen throwing a single-barrel shotgun through the left side window of the lorry into the nearby bushes.

The Inspector immediately retrieved the suspected firearm and showed it to Persaud and asked if he was a licensed firearm holder. Persaud said he wasn’t and he was then told of the offence committed and cautioned.

The shotgun was checked but no ammunition was found. Persaud was subsequently escorted to the McKenzie Police Station, where the firearm was photographed, marked, sealed and lodged.

There is no name or number on the firearm that can be easily identified. The suspect remains in police custody pending charges.
