Robbery suspect flees police; leaves behind haversack with gun, cannabis

The Guyana Police Force (GPF) on Friday said it is making efforts to apprehend Williams Hendricks who allegedly dropped a haversack containing guns, ammunition and cannabis while fleeing.

The GPF in a statement said a party of police ranks headed by an inspector went to Goldfinger Backdam, Cuyuni River, Region Seven on Thursday at about 14:20hrs.

The ranks were at the time responding to reports from miners in the area of threats, assault and robbery committed by Hendricks, who is well known.

After being informed that Hendricks was staying at a camp in Eroma Backdam, the ranks proceeded there. Hendricks was seen sitting with a black haversack in his hand when the police arrived. But upon noticing the police, the man got up and ran into the nearby bushes, the police said.

The ranks gave chase, which caused him to drop the black haversack.

The ranks retrieved the haversack and found a black 9MM Ruger Pistol with 17 live 9mm rounds of ammunition in its magazine, along with a bulky transparent plastic and a blue plastic bag, both containing a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be Cannabis.

The ranks are making further efforts to apprehend the suspect, the police said.
