Nicholas Smith, a 27-year-old man of West Ruimveldt, Georgetown, was remanded to prison on Friday for allegedly discharging a loaded firearm in public, resulting in the injury of three men.

Smith appeared before Senior Magistrate Leron Daly at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court and pleaded not guilty to two charges brought against him.

It is alleged that on October 16, 2023, at West Ruimveldt, Georgetown, Smith unlawfully and maliciously wounded Rondel Reyes with the intent to maim, disfigure, or cause him grievous bodily harm.

Furthermore, it is alleged that on the same day at West Ruimveldt, he discharged a loaded firearm at Husain Campbell and Keshawn Fraser with the intent to maim, disfigure, or cause them grievous bodily harm.

The police prosecutor informed the court that Smith and Reyes were engaged in a violent altercation on the day in question.

Smith left the scene but later returned with a knife and a gun, indiscriminately shooting into a crowd, which resulted in injuries to Campbell and Fraser, who were bystanders. Reyes was wounded during the altercation.

The prosecutor strongly objected to Smith being released on bail, citing his criminal history.

However, Smith denied this, and his attorney, Stacy Goodings, applied for bail.

Magistrate Daly refused the application and remanded Smith to prison until October 30.
