An accident on the Haslington Public Road, East Coast Demerara (ECD) on Saturday night resulted in the death of a 32-year-old motorcyclist.

The dead man has been identified as Rene Anthony Sheo of Nabacalis, ECD.

Sheo was the rider of motorcycle CM 1832 with pillion rider, Alex Mayers, 30, when the accident occurred around 23:30 hrs.

According to a Police report, motorcar, HD 2439, was heading east along the northern side of the road when the driver, a 62-year-old resident of Cove & John, ECD, alleged that he stopped and observed the road was clear before turning south.

“At that point, he (driver) felt an impact on his vehicle’s left side front door, which caused the motorcyclist and pillion rider to fall onto the roadway and receive injuries on their bodies,” Police said.

Police said both Sheo and Mayers were not wearing safety helmets at the time.

They were picked up by public-spirited citizens and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) where Sheo was pronounced dead.

According to the Police, the driver of the car was subject to a breathalyser test but no trace of alcohol was detected.

He is currently in custody as the investigation continues.
