Sherfane Rutherford struck a belligerent maiden List A hundred to lead Guyana Harpy Eagles to a four-wicket win over previously unbeaten Leeward Islands Hurricanes in the CG United Super50 Cup on Monday at the Queen’s Park Oval in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad.

The left-hander smashed an unbeaten 105 off 71 balls, an innings that included eight sixes and seven fours, as Harpy Eagles overhauled a target of 245 with 15 balls to spare.

The fact that Rutherford batted at number seven made the knock even more special, as it swung the match in Guyana’s favour at a time when Hurricanes were threatening to go three from three.

The 25-year-old, playing in his 30th List A game, went into T20 mode, a format he is more adept at, scoring 76 runs in fours and sixes.

This innings though will only serve to enhance his 50-over skills, having closed out the game to hand Harpy Eagles valuable points.

Rutherford and Romario Shepherd (18* off 25) sealed the game with an unbroken seventh-wicket partnership. Earlier, Tevin Imlach and Kevlon Anderson made 32 each, while Kemol Savory, playing his first game this season, scored 26.

Tagenarine Chanderpaul (1), Shimron Hetmyer (4) and Kevin Sinclair (12) were the batters dismissed, as Kofi James took 3-30 off 10 overs.

Earlier, Hurricanes won the toss and batted first, posting 244-6.

Wicketkeeper/batter Jahmar Hamilton topscored with an unbeaten 54, Karima Gore scored 54 and Hayden Walsh 49.

Bowling from Harpy Eagles, skipper Veerasammy Permaul picked up 2-40 and Shepherd 2-45.

Guyana Harpy Eagles next play the Combined Campuses and Colleges from 09:00h on Wednesday at UWI ground, St. Augustine.

Two other games are slated for Wednesday- Barbados Pride versus Windward Islands Volcanoes from 09:00h at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy and Jamaica versus West Indies Academy from 09:00h at Queen’s Park Oval, Port-of-Spain.
