Vendor recently released from prison remanded for robbery

Fruit vendor, Omar Anderson, who was recently released from prison after serving six months for armed robbery, was on Wednesday remanded to prison for allegedly robbing a man.

Anderson, 20, of Sophia, Georgetown, appeared before Chief Magistrate (ag), Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court and pleaded not guilty to the robbery charge.

It is alleged that Anderson, on October 22, at Kingston, Georgetown robbed Reynold Charles of an iPhone valued at $120,000 along with $35,000 in cash.

The court prosecutor strongly objected to Anderson being released on bail citing his previous conviction.

The Magistrate upheld the prosecutor’s objection and remanded Anderson to prison until November 15.

In April, Anderson was charged with robbing Joel Jardine of a $32,000 Samsung Galaxy mobile, a wallet valued at $1000, and $20,000 in cash.

The robbery was committed on March 31, at Lombard Street, Georgetown while Anderson was in the company of others and armed with a gun.  aHe was later sentenced to serve six months for the crime.
