A new labour office was commissioned at Better Hope, East Coast Demerara (ECD) on Wednesday as part of the Labour Ministry’s plans to decentralise its services and respond to the developments unfolding along the East Coast corridor.
Subject Minister Joseph Hamilton said the establishment of the office is meant to guarantee that good governance takes place. And for him, governance means giving service to others.
He also said this office was established in response to developments unfolding there.

“There’s a lot of development happening on the East Coast,” Hamilton said.
The Better Hope office is located in the community centre ground compound and will house technical departments of the Ministry of Labour, where the ministry’s essential services and initiatives will be coordinated.
There are five employees there. Because the East Coast corridor is home to numerous Cooperative Societies, Hamilton said an officer will be stationed there to deal with matters involving those organisations.
That officer is necessary Hamilton said, because the government has committed to delivering land titles to people who own lands in Cooperative Society schemes.
