Shawn Collins, a 25-year-old labourer from Charlestown, Georgetown, was nabbed with a loaded gun on Thursday night at the Pouderoyen Public Road, West Bank Demerara.

Police Headquarters reported that officers were on mobile patrol duty in the area when they observed Collins and Steffon Howard, a 23-year-old labourer of East La Penitence, Georgetown, acting suspiciously.

Both men were searched. A black 9mm semi-automatic pistol, with the serial number filed off, was found inside a lunch pack Collin had around his shoulder. It contained a magazine with fifteen 9mm rounds of ammunition.

Collins was told of the offence committed and cautioned, after which he reportedly replied: “Officer, I get this for my protection.” He was then arrested.

Police escorted both men to the Vreed-en-Hoop Police outpost. While there, Collins received a call. An Officer answered that call and heard someone saying, “Hey, I reach at de base hay way yall dea”.

Ranks then went to the Pouderoyen public road where Shawn Dos Santos, a 27-year-old labourer of South Ruimveldt Housing Scheme, Georgetown, was seen sitting on a Grey 110cc Honda motorcycle.

The ranks then called back the number and his (Dos Santos’) cellphone rang. He was then questioned and gave conflicting stories to the Police. He was arrested and escorted to the Vreed-en-Hoop Police outpost.

The three suspects were taken to the Leonora Police Station, where they were placed into custody, pending further investigations.
