A man accused of breaking into Shabana & Sons Liquor Mart & General Store in Albouystown, Georgetown and stealing over $5 million in cash and items was on Friday remanded to prison.

Ulrick Edwards appeared before Magistrate Leron Daly at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on three counts of break and enter with larceny, all of which he denied.

According to the first charge, Edwards, between August 18-19, 2023, at James Street, Albouystown, forcibly entered the shop and made off with $4.8 million in cash, $1 million worth of GTT and Digicel phone cards, an Xbox valued at $60,000, and two cell phones.

These items were the property of Bibi Shabana Mohamed.

The two additional charges involve the theft of $30,000 and $355,000 in cash, belonging to Earl Khan and Jessica Singh, respectively.

The Police prosecutor strongly opposed Edwards being granted bail, highlighting the serious nature of the charges.

The prosecution further stressed that Edwards was captured on CCTV cameras, and he was positively identified due to distinguishing marks on his body.

In addition, his fingerprints were discovered at the crime scene and were a positive match for Edwards, partly due to his two missing fingers.

Magistrate Daly remanded Edwards to prison, and he is scheduled to appear in court again on November 24, 2023.
