Police ranks from the  Mackenzie, Aroima and Kwakwani Police Stations in Region Ten on Friday discovered 43 pounds (19,504 grammes) of suspected cannabis at an unfinished wooden at Wiruni Creek.

Police Headquarters in a statement noted that the ranks were conducting river patrol at the time of the discovery.

At about 15:00 hrs, while the ranks were on the western bank of Wiruni Creek holding discussions with residents of the community, they observed a man jump from an incomplete wooden house and run into the bushes.

Ranks chased behind him but he escaped. Upon checking the house, a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems were found scattered on the floor and in a large black plastic bag.

A black, 8Hp Mercury outboard engine was also on the floor.

The engine was lodged at the Kwakwani Police Station, while the cannabis was lodged at the Mackenzie Police Station. The investigation is ongoing.
