Essequibo rice farmer found dead

Police are investigating the death of 47-year-old Mohindra Mohan, called ‘Boyo’, a rice farmer of Devonshire Castle, Essequibo Coast, whose body was found lying on the roadway next to his bicycle.

The incident occurred between 04:30 hrs and 07:00 hrs on Tuesday at Devonshire Castle Backdam.

According to the Police report, the victim’s 69-year-old mother told the Police that her son, who was an alcoholic, left home at about 04:30 hrs to go to his rice farm using his bicycle as usual.

At about 07:00 hrs, she received information that her son was seen lying on the road. She immediately ventured to the area where she saw him motionless, and his bicycle was next to him.

A report was subsequently made to the Police and the scene was processed and photographed by crime scene ranks.

“The body was examined, and no mark of violence was seen,” the Police report noted.

The body is at the Suddie Public Hospital’s Mortuary, awaiting a Post-Mortem Examination.
