The Guyana Cancer Society, established in March 2022, is making significant progress in its mission to raise awareness and facilitate early cancer detection.

Thanks to the generous support of several organisations and individuals, the Society has been able to arrange 350 mammograms and 150 pap smears to be conducted by the end of 2023 at the Dr. Balwant Singh’s Hospital.

More than half of these screenings have already been completed.

Support has been garnered from First Lady Arya Ali, the Ministry of Health, GTT, B.M. Soat, Madd Tea, Modern Grafix, Meditron, N&S Algoo Licensed Customs Brokerage Services, Team Mohamed’s, Ocean Air Logistics Inc., Discover Guyana, Glamour Connection Guyana, Guyana Public Service Cooperative Credit Union and Associated Packers Industry.

“It’s important to emphasise that our commitment to screening and awareness goes beyond October, and our efforts extend beyond breast cancer. We’ve been conducting awareness talks on various types of cancers throughout the country,” the Guyana Cancer Society said.

“These services are also available within the public health system, and we encourage everyone to take advantage of them, as early detection is crucial for a better quality of life. We warmly invite support from both the public and corporate entities to join us in our mission, as your assistance will greatly contribute to achieving our future goals.”
