One month after 40-year-old Sherman Phillips was brutally chopped during an argument, one of his alleged attackers was on Wednesday charged with murder and remanded to prison.

Sean Lindore called ‘Leather’, a 27-year-old gold miner appeared at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Crystal Lambert.

He is accused of murdering Phillips called ‘Sunno’, also a gold miner, on October 8 at Sand Hill Backdam, Cuyuni River.

Lindore was not required to plea to the indictable charge and was remanded to prison. The matter was adjourned to December 28.

The News Room understands that the incident occurred at around 17:00 hrs; it is alleged that Phillips received information that Lindore and an accomplice, who is yet to be apprehended, were working on a piece of land that he had cleared to do his own work.

As a result, Phillips confronted the suspects and an argument ensued, during which the suspects armed themselves with cutlasses and chopped Phillips to his head, back, abdomen and hands.

Phillips was taken to the Bartica Hospital where he was admitted; he subsequently succumbed to his injuries while receiving medical attention.

An investigation was launched during which Lindore was arrested.
