ExxonMobil Guyana in collaboration with New Era Entertainment earlier this week launched the 2023 futsal tournament at the company’s head office in Kingston.
The tournament will run for nine days and will be held at the recently refurbished Retrieve Hard Court.
Director of New Era Entertainment, Kenrick Noel said: “We are committed to ensuring utmost professionalism in team attendance during the march past and the conduct of teams throughout the tournament.”
The tournament will take a round-robin format and will see the top four teams winning G$1,000,000; G$500,000; G$200,000 and G$100,000 respectively.
The competition will feature 20 teams from Linden and five standby teams. According to the rules of the tournament, the standby teams will only participate if a team fails to show up for the march past on the opening night.
The participating teams are: Anybody Gets It, Blueberry Hill, Coomacka, DC Ballers, Fearless, Finishers, Genna Syde, Goal is Money, Gorilla, Golden Stars, Hard Knocks, HH Ballers, Hill Side Ballers, LA Ballers, One Side, The Money Team, West Side Ballers, YMCA, Young Gunners and Youths United.
ExxonMobil Guyana Community Relations Advisor, Ryan Hoppie disclosed that “one of the goals is to ensure that we have good wholesome fun at this year’s tournament and to ensure that this provides a platform for alternative types of social activities, that can foster camaraderie and a level of discipline, while also providing an opportunity for players to earn some winnings.”
The playing dates are November 10, 11, 12, 15, 17, 18, 22, 24 and 25.
The winning team will execute a project in their community in partnership with ExxonMobil Guyana.
Last year’s champion Team Unknown installed streetlights in the Green Valley community as their project.
Through a partnership with New Era Entertainment, ExxonMobil Guyana, and the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, the Retrieve Hard-court was given an upgraded playing surface, washroom facilities, fence, lighting and seating accommodation.
