President Dr. Irfaan Ali on Thursday announced a suite of new allowances and incentives for teachers all across the country.
Televised live on his Facebook page, the Head of State said that salaries for all graduate teachers shall be moved to the maximum of the scale, applicable to the post they currently occupy.
Of particular note, all graduate teachers who possess a Bachelor’s Degree will now get a $10,000 monthly allowance, which adds up to $120,000 annually. This adds to their salaries and other benefits.
For those who hold a Master’s Degree, an allowance of $20,000 monthly, or $240,000 annually, will be given. And for those with a doctorate, $30,000 monthly, or $360,000 annually, will be given as an allowance.
The President also announced increases for the Remote Areas Incentives (RAI) given to hinterland teachers.
Further, all Senior Masters/ Mistresses or above, within three years of retirement who did not benefit from duty-free before, are now entitled to a duty-free allowance for a motorcar up to 1500 CC.
