An accident between two trucks on the Foulis Public Road, West Coast Berbice on Tuesday, resulted in the death of Renold Chattian, a 34-year-old man from Williamsburg, Corentyne, Berbice.

It is alleged that motor lorry GZZ 2733, driven by Mohamed Shakar of Tain Village, crashed into the back of GTT 9027, driven Roopan Singh of Uitvlugt, West Coast Demerara.

Chattian was seated in the cab of the truck driven by Shakar when the accident occurred at around 16:00 hrs.

Singh told the Police that he was heading west along the road when he noticed thick smoke across the Foulis public road, blowing north to south. He said he slowed down due to poor visibility and while driving through the smoke, he felt an impact at the rear of his lorry.

As a result, Chattian and the other occupants who were seated in the cab of the truck, sustained injuries and were taken out of the vehicle and transported to the Fort Wellington Public Hospital where Chattian was pronounced dead.

Both drivers were tested negative for alcohol in their system.
