The Guyanese-owned freight company HAB International Inc. recognises the needs of the local economy amid the country’s rapid development and in response, it is now a logistics provider.
What this means for the company and its huge clientele is that it will be warehousing and distributing items rather than just shipping, as it is known for. This rebranding was announced on Tuesday evening during a formal gathering at the Pegasus Exhibition Centre, Georgetown.
The company’s Miami Manager, Tina Beharry said this is how the company will be different from its competitors as ‘HAB Local Logistics’ is now in operation.
“It’s exciting to see the growth and development of HAB from where it started and where it is now and it’s been an organic growth over the years, from where we started as an express service just doing air freight to now a full logistics service from door to door,” Beharry said.
HAB has offices in Doral Miami, Florida, United States, and at Lot 1 Eccles, East Bank Demerara; the company has been attracting an ever growing customer base which has been expanding for some 25 years.
“I think understanding Guyana and being here and being 100 per cent local content from owner to all of our staff, understanding the needs of where Guyana is going as well, I feel like we are growing with Guyana…and as we grow and expand, we’re doing that to meet the needs of the demand that is out there,” Beharry said.
The aim of HAB is to offer a way to ship items within 24 hours to Guyana and with the growing demand for logistics services that new companies moving here require, the company will not only provide air, ocean, mailbox, and online account services but also have items in storage for delivery when needed.
Minister within the Ministry of Public Works, Deodat Indar; Chairman of the Private Sector Commission, Komal Singh; President of the GCCI, Kester Hutson and several other public and private sector representatives were in attendance at the ceremony.
Singh, in brief remarks, said HAB is a company that has high standards, always on time and has great customer service.
“They have the right attitude towards customers and I was very confident that over the years they will be able to develop themselves in business,” Singh said as he reflected on his encounters with the company.
He HAB International Inc is a prime example of what other businesses should strive for. He said this expansion will greatly benefit the auto-sector which isn’t in the spotlight as often but is very important for day-to-day services.
