President Dr. Irfaan Ali will soon make changes to officers in charge of regional matters, a move that could see Regional Executive Officers (REOs) reshuffled or even replaced.
This was revealed by Vice President Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo on Thursday during a press conference held at the People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C) Georgetown headquarters, Freedom House.
The Vice President did not elaborate on whether the President is likely to reshuffle those regional officials or replace them entirely.
He only said, “I know he (President Ali) has ideas on the REOs… There are some impending changes.”
Already, at least one REO has come under fire after residents of his region flagged several concerns. Region Six’s REO Narindra Persaud in October came in for much rebuke from President Ali after residents of Mara complained bitterly about issues in the community, including the non-payment of pensions in the community.
Prior to that, President Ali changed Permanent Secretaries at various government ministries and also appointed two new persons at the Ministry of Legal Affairs and the Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development.
From what I’ve read, some of the REO’s think they OWN whatever they are in charge of.
And the fraud being perpetuated through fictitious employment.
Mr. Ali should fire all the “troublemakers” REO’s and place dedicated managers who know how to manage
a business.
