Over-40 Inter-County: Ramdass (135) leads Demerara to dominant victory over Essequibo

Demerara Capitals emerged victorious as Ryan Ramdass rolled back the years with a blistering 135 in a thrilling start to the Big Man Cricket Over-40 Inter-county tournament.

The former West Indies Test batsman’s explosive innings, featured ten sixes and 13 fours off 72 balls before he retired hurt.

The class of Ramdass powered Demerara Capitals to an imposing 306-2 in their 30 overs.

Ramdass, not alone in his brilliance, formed a formidable 248-run second-wicket partnership with Shazam Ramjohn, who contributed an aggressive 66 not out.

Troy Benn also played a pivotal role in the Capitals’ strong foundation, putting up 106 runs with Ramdass.

Invited to bat first, the Capitals capitalized on the opportunity to score runs freely.

Essequibo Jaguars, in pursuit of the challenging target, were ultimately dismissed for 181 in 21.1 overs.

The hosts’ top-scorer, Vishwanauth Lall, managed 65 runs. Demerara Capitals’ bowlers, led by seamer Randy Lindore’s impressive 5-36 from four overs and supported by Ucil Amstrong’s 3-28, ensured a convincing victory.

Lindore also took five crucial catches, including two from his bowling.

Meanwhile, at Blairmont Community Centre ground in Berbice, Berbice Gladiators dominated President’s X1 Warriors, securing a 120-run win.

Gladiators posted a formidable 212-7 in their reduced 25-over innings, with former National youth player Devon Clements leading the charge with 68 runs. The Warriors, in response, were dismissed for 92 in 16 overs.

The tournament continues with Demerara Capitals facing President’s X1 Warriors at Enmore ground on Saturday, 25 November, while Essequibo Jaguars take on Berbice Gladiators at Blairmont on Sunday, 26 November.
