A 23-year-old security guard has confessed to stealing a .38 revolver with five matching rounds from his employer, Professional Guard Service (PGS), while on duty.

In custody is Horace Thomside of Adelaide Street, Charlestown, Georgetown.

Police Headquarters said in a statement on Monday that Thomside and a driver of the same company, 38-year-old Olton Mars were arrested on Saturday. They were both questioned in relation to the missing firearm and ammunition during which Thomside confessed to stealing the firearm and ammunition.

According to the Police, Thomside was taken to his Charlestown home during which a search was conducted in his bedroom. The revolver was found under Thomside bed while the ammunition were wrapped in a sock, Police said.

While in custody, Police said Mars related that around 07:00hrs, he signed and collected eight .38 revolvers and two shotguns, from the duty officer at the time, Sabrina Henry.

Police said that Mars noted that he placed the items under the mat in the front passenger seat of the motor car he was driving.

He then proceeded to Pradoville/Ogle, East Coast Demerara, where he picked up Thomside.

“Mars said that after he picked up Thomside, he proceeded to Case Diamond located on East Street, where he issued a .38 revolver to a guard on duty at that site. They then proceeded to NBS and Caribbean Airlines on Avenue of the Republic, where he issued one revolver each to the guards on duty at these sites,” Police Headquarters explained.

Mars further related that he dropped Thomside at his worksite on Saffon and Broad Street and issued him with the revolver.

It was after proceeding to another site in Agricola, East Bank Demerara to issue the revolver to another guard that Mars discovered the items were missing, Police said.

As a result, Police said Mars immediately contacted Henry and informed her of the missing firearm.

“Several checks were made, including at the various worksites, but the missing firearm was not found,” Police said.

Thomside is slated to be charged soon.
