A female prison officer was arrested on Saturday after she was allegedly found in possession of a 289 grams of cannabis, some of which were concealed in a water bottle, while entering the New Amsterdam prison.
Police Headquarters reported that in keeping with the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), the rank was stopped and searched as she was entering the prison compound.
According to the Police, a search was conducted on her person but nothing was found.
A search was then carried out on the water bottle she had in her possession when the ranks found a transparent package, containing leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis.
Police said that a further search was carried out on her motor car, PZZ 1197 during which additional cannabis was found.
“On the floor behind the driver’s seat, a black plastic bag containing two transparent parcels wrapped with tape was found. An examination was carried out on the parcels, and it was observed that a quantity of leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be cannabis was found,” Police Headquarters said.
The Police were summoned and the prison officer was arrested and taken to the Central Police station.
The prison officer remain in custody and is assisting with the investigation.
