Stage set for thrilling action in KFC Goodwill Schools Football

Five Guyanese teams will battle three of their Caribbean and South American counterparts in the fourth KFC Goodwill Under-18 Schools Football tournament that kicks off Tuesday at the Queen’s College ground from 13:30h.

Defending champions D.C Caesar Fox (Waramadong) Secondary, Chase Academic Foundation, Carmel Secondary, St. Ignatius Secondary, Bartica Secondary, Clarendon College (Jamaica), St. Benedict’s College (Trinidad and Tobago)  and Voorgezet Wetenschappelijk Onderwijs Four (VWO-4) of Suriname, will contest the tournament.

The opening fixture pits the defending champions against Carmel Secondary, followed by St. Benedict’s and VWO-4 from 15:30h at Queen’s College.

The action then moves to the Ministry of Education ground, Carifesta Avenue, from 18:00h, where Clarendon battles Bartica, and the day’s final match will be Chase against St. Ignatius from 20:00h.

The other playing dates are December 14, 16, 19, and the final is December 22.

During a meet and greet with some of the teams and officials at the KFC’s Vlissengen Road on Monday, the teams were given best wishes for a successful tournament.

Teams will be split into two groups of four, and the top two will progress to the semi-finals, followed by the final on December 22.

Group A consists of St. Benedict’s College, Carmel Secondary, D.C Caesar Fox Secondary and VWO 4 College, while Group B has Clarendon College, Chase Academic Foundation, St. Ignatius Secondary and Bartica Secondary.

Shiva Boys Hindu College (2018), Annai Secondary (2019) and Waramadong (2022) were the previous winners.

This year, the top school cops a prize of US$2,500, followed by US$1,500 (second), US$1,000 (third) and US$500 (fourth).
