The home of a Canadian-based Guyanese was Tuesday morning completely destroyed by fire at No.70 Village, Middle Walk Dam, Upper Corentyne.

The home owner was identified as Joe Persaud who returned to Guyana approximately two weeks ago on vacation. He reportedly stayed at the two storey wooden edifice by himself.

Camille Balkaran, a neighbour, disclosed that they were awakened at around 01:00 hrs to the flames coming from Persaud’s house and the entire building was already consumed.

She said based on what she was told, Persaud managed to escape from the burning house with a few pieces of clothing and his passport.

A Toyota 212 bearing license plate PPP 837 was also destroyed along with some agricultural machinery.
