Young Emmanuel Lewis produced a masterclass on Monday, hitting a shot-filled 204 against Upper Demerara/Select XI in the Demerara Cricket Board’s Inter-Association Under-15 tournament at the Queen’s College ground.
The 14-year-old faced 103 balls and struck 16 fours and 17 sixes, helping Georgetown to post a daunting 406-6 from 50 overs. In reply, Upper Demerara/Select XI folded for 98 in 32.3 overs.
The classy Lewis, who hails from Transport Sports Club, shared a stand of 200 for the third wicket with Shamar Apple, who got 69 (6x4s; 3x6s) from 62 balls.
Lewis steered other significant partnerships, adding 71 for the fourth wicket with Khush Seegobin (19) and 52 for the second with opener Shane Shivbarran (23).
Despite some good performances from Anek Haimnarine (2-63 from 10 overs) and Sameer Bhola (2-69 from 10 overs), 43 runs were leaked in extras.
Upper Demerara had a relatively slow start, but they kept their wickets intact as Jamaine Grovesnor and Shahid Ramzan weathered impressive bowling from Darwin LaRose and Samuel Barkoye to reach 31 without loss in 8.5 overs.
When LaRose bowled Grovesnor for 16 (3x4s), it became a steady fall of wickets.
The determined Ramzan struck a solitary boundary in his patient innings of 10 from 48 balls, while Makai Dowlin (16) and Joshua Bollers (10) were the only other batters to reach double figures, as extras were 27.

Danvir Seegobin grabbed 3-12 from six overs, while Khush Seegobin had 2-9 from 1.3 overs to help the title favourites to a massive 298-run victory (DLS method).
This is Georgetown’s second win in two matches, while it was an opening defeat for Upper Demerara.
The tournament, used to select the Demerara U-15 team for the Inter-County tournament, continues on Thursday with East Bank facing Georgetown at the Farm ground and Upper Demerara/Select XI against East Coast Demerara at Lusignan.
Both matches are scheduled to commence at 09:00h.
