Prison officer to spend Christmas behind bars after caught with ganja

A prison officer who was nabbed with ganja, some of which was stashed in a water bottle, while entering the New Amsterdam prison has been charged and remanded to prison with her next court date being after Christmas.

Angelica Cameron, 32, of Glasgow Housing Scheme, East Bank Berbice, was arrested on December 9, 2023.

The charges against her were laid under Section 5(1)(a)(i) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Control Act, Chapter 10:10.

She appeared at the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday before Magistrate Peter Hugh and she pleaded not guilty.

Bail was refused and she was remanded to prison. The matter was adjourned to December 27, 2023.

  1. Is this Prisoner a habitual user of the drugs ?
    Was her effort in the cause of a boyfriend in the N/A prison?
    Was she dealing drugs to the prison population for additional funds ?
    If there is a maximum sentence, then she should be enjoying that sentence at the
    pleasure of the State of Guyana- rent, food, security, health care, clothing- ALL FREE.
