Contrasting wins for Georgetown and East Coast in DCB U-15 Inter-Association

Title favourites Georgetown thrashed East Bank Demerara by nine wickets and East Coast Demerara pulled off a hard-fought victory over Upper Demerara/Select XI in round three of the Demerara Cricket Board (DCB) Inter-Association Under-15, 50-over competition on Thursday.

At the Farm ground, East Bank Demerara, Georgetown dismissed the home side for a paltry 22 in 12.4 overs, before knocking off the target in just 4.1 overs.

National Under-13 skipper Brandon Henry run rampant with majestic figures of 5-5 from six overs, while fellow national player Reyaz Latif claimed a helmet-trick on his way to splendid figures of 4-4 off 2.4 overs.

Skipper Emmanuel Lewis picked up 1-12 off four overs, as Ravendra Singh topscored with eight. Six batsmen were dismissed without scoring.

In reply, Georgetown lost left-hander Shamar Apple to the first ball of the innings to Jasone Craig, before opener Shane Shivbarran (13*) and Ravin Singh (10*) saw their team to a third straight victory in the competition.

Munesh Outar was outstanding with the ball for East Coast

Over at Lusignan, Upper Demerara/Select XI batted first and posted 92 all out from 37 overs.

Openers Jermaine Grovesnor and Shahid Ramzan gave them a steady start of 31 in 10.1 overs, but once that partnership was broken, wickets started to tumble.

Grovesnor made 17, skipper Joshua Bollers topscored with 23 off 40 deliveries, Ramzan spent 43 balls for his seven, while Anek Haimnarine made seven not out.

Extras were 26.

Bowling for East Coast, Munesh Outar was outstanding with figures of 5-13 off 10 overs, three of which were maidens.

Fellow spinner Mickel Sharma also applied the pressure on Upper Demerara/Select XI, producing figures of 10-2-19-2.

Despite a valiant effort by Upper Demerara/Select XI bowlers, East Coast pulled off the win by two wickets in 29.2 overs.

Haimnarine led the bowling effort with 4-21 off 10 overs, while there was a wicket each for Prosper Jacobus, Sameer Bhola and Nathaniel Sukhnandan.

Ravin Persaud topscored with an unbeaten 20, Junior Dindyal made 17 and Outar 14.

The competition continues on Friday with East Bank versus Upper Demerara/Select XI at the Farm ground and East Coast against West Demerara at the Lusignan ground.

Both games will start at 09:30h.

The lads from Georgetown have drawn the bye for this penultimate round.
